15 Times Stone Cold Steve Austin's Ego Ran Wild In WWE

12. Holding Down Billy Gunn

As 1999 progressed, the WWF were looking at creating new stars. One guy that Vince McMahon was keen to get behind was Billy Gunn, hence why Gunn won the King Of The Ring that year. The plan was for him to then go on to a big headlining feud with Stone Cold Steve Austin. Just one problem, Austin didn't like the idea. He squashed Gunn's push, feeling that he wasn't a big enough star. Austin had reportedly went to Vince and told him he only wanted to work with established stars. The fact is, Austin could get away with it. He was doing record business and the fans loved him, so he had all the leverage. As a result, McMahon gave Austin what he wanted. If it was anyone else holding another wrestler down like that, fans would slaughter them as a selfish egomaniac.
