15 Ups & 1 Down From AEW Dynamite (Oct 23)

7. Janela & Omega Deliver Big

If you think that Joey Janela is but a garbage hardcore wrestler but aren't so stubborn that your opinion can't be changed, watch this match.

If you like your wrestling fast-paced, action-packed, and with plenty of story/character details, watch this match.

If you want to witness Kenny Omega's ongoing evolution into a slick, refined television wrestler, watch this match.

Janela vs. Omega II was a sharp left turn after their unsanctioned Lights Out war on Dark. That bout was mental, with both men taking all kinds of career-shortening plunder bumps. Here, the expectation was that they'd compensate for the lack of weaponry with dangerous, New Japan-style head-drops, but they largely avoided this, working a more conventionally laid-out contest instead.

The pacing was brisk and the energy levels high but with the announcers putting over that Janela wanted to show he can do more than just brawl, the dynamic was set. The one crazy bump didn't come until right before the end. 'The Bad Boy' was hoisted with his own petard, his back crashing into The Hardest Part Of The Ring™ after a top-rope senton gone wrong, allowing Omega to hit a most concussive V-Trigger, the One-Winged Angel, and score the win.

Janela is a star in the making and Kenny is attempting a late charge for Wrestler Of The Year now that he's back in his New Japan groove. It's too late to genuinely consider him in that category, of course, but he's working at an elite level again.
