15 Worst Moments Of The WWE Pandemic Era
2. Drew’s Descent
One of the few true successes of the Pandemic Era has to be
the elevation of Drew McIntyre to a top-tier star, completing what began at
Royal Rumble 2020 and making him a main event guy.
And then WWE somehow managed to turn him into the modern day John Cena and Roman Reigns. Because this company just can’t get out of its own way and screw up everything it does.
McIntyre first lost his WWE Championship to Randy Orton after beating him multiple times – because the company was in a mindset that feuds must continue for 3-4 months minimum. But after winning it back, Drew became more of a champion like Cena, mugging for the camera and playing the smiling babyface.
Things got worse when McIntyre lost the title at Elimination Chamber and lost his big title match at WrestleMania 37. Drew then became the whiny, entitled babyface who got multiple chances at the title but always came up short – though usually due to outside circumstances. Drew also started telling long-winded, nonsensical stories loosely rooted in Scottish history, as if that was the sort of thing to rally fans to his side.
The end result is that when WWE opened its doors back to fans this month, he got booed. Ostensibly the top babyface in the company during this past year got booed. If you needed proof that WWE cannot be trusted to run its own affairs, look no further than McIntyre.
