15 Worst Moments Of The WWE Pandemic Era

3. Eye For An Eye

Rey Mysterio is riding high these days, teaming with his son Dominik and trying to win the back the SmackDown Tag Team Championship.

But for a good while in 2020, Rey was mired in a horrible feud in front of an empty Performance Center. During a fairly routine match in May, Seth Rollins jabbed Mysterio’s eye into the corner of the steel ring steps, allegedly puncturing the eye. It was a comically bad moment, complete with Rollins making exaggerated cartoon villain faces throughout.

But as if that wasn’t bad enough, the feud continued until they actually had an Eye for an Eye match, where the objective was to remove your opponent’s eye from its socket. Rollins would succeed, but the outcome itself would be obscured from view (despite it being pre-recorded), rendering the entire point of the match meaningless.

The Mysterio/Rollins feud itself was a six-month vortex of suck. But the Eye for an Eye match was easily one of the worst moments of 2020, an utter embarrassment for a wrestling program pitting a legend against one of its most talented stars. Don’t expect to ever see this one again on a retrospective program.
