6. Sting Vs. Hulk Hogan - Starrcade 1997
Sting's road to Starrcade 1997 isn't just one of the best stories in WCW's history, it's one of the best builds in all of wrestling that took eighteen months to reach its conclusion.
Sting left WCW as the nWo began to take off/over, directionless with no place following the huge paradigm shift, but returned in his Crow-style character to stalk and torment the heel group for month leading to his confrontation with Hollywood Hulk Hogan.
What was supposed to happen was Hogan pins Sting with a fast count by nWo referee Nick Patrick, Bret Hart restarts the match and Sting win the World Heavyweight Championship. When it came time to do the fast count, Patrick counted at a normal pace, which meant Hogan ended up looking like the one screwed by Sting and Bret Hart.
There's speculation that Patrick was bribed or influenced by Hogan to count normally to make his character look better, but whatever the case may be, it ended up making the whole angle worthless.
Eighteen months went down the drain as even the most ardent WCW fan saw Hogan as the rightful champion, and WCW had to jump through hoops to get back to where they should have been originally.
