15 WWE Pushes That IMMEDIATELY Backfired

11. Bret Hart (2010)

Bret you didn't expect to see the 'Hitman' grace this list of duff pushes gone wrong, but here he is. Things become a tad clearer upon realising that it's 2010 going under the microscope and not anything from Hart's peak run in the federation between 1984-1997. Post-Montreal Screwjob and suspect WCW run, Bret surprisingly returned on the 4 January 2010 Raw to make amends with Shawn Michaels and Vince McMahon.

That fed into a startling angle with McMahon kicking Bret in the balls, which really should’ve led to something special...if this had happened at any point before he'd stepped away from wrestling in 2000. Setting up an admittedly must-see match between these old rivals backfired on WWE in the end. Hart was a shell of his former self due to health issues by then, so his match vs. Vince at WrestleMania XXVI was abominably bad.

The legend couldn’t take bumps (any bumps), and the match was so poor that a one-sided beating almost turned McMahon babyface with the live crowd. That took some doing, but it goes to show just how limited these fellas were heading into the biggest show of the year. This wasn't a patch on Vince's scraps with other top liners in years gone by.

WWE tried to brave face things by bizarrely sticking the United States Title on Hart afterwards, but nobody was fooled. He couldn't bump, struggled to move around the ring freely, his promos had lost some fire, and Bret was generally just 'Hitman 0.5' rather than 'Hitman 2.0'.

McMahon would reason that he had to circle back to Montreal when he had the chance. Fair enough, but that doesn't mean Bret's last big push was any use.
