CM Punk is one of those guys who just does not give a damn what anybody thinks of him. Given he's one of the most outspoken superstars the WWE has seen, he's now revered and disliked in almost equal measure. Punk loved to cause a stir, and whether he be screaming from the rooftops that 'straight edge means I'm better than you' or dropping pipe-bombs on the microphone, he made sure that he made his presence known. He really began to get over during his feud with Jeff Hardy in 2009, where he ended up ridding the WWE Universe of Hardy's presence for good, whilst walking away with the World Heavyweight Championship. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhzwhAYy5hA Fast forward a few years and past the 2011 Summer of Punk, past his 434 day reign as WWE Champion, and we get to see that Punk still loves the hate. Even his departure from WWE shows the type of character he is. Punk, who had enough of poor creative, took it upon himself to walk out following the 2014 Royal Rumble and leave his legions of fans disappointed. They didn't even get anything of a goodbye after supporting him, but it's not Punk's prerogative to please anybody. He's as single minded as they come.
