15 WWE Stars Who Thrived On Being Hated

12. Bobby Heenan

Out of all the managers to ever work the outside of the squared circle, none were better at drawing heat than The Brain. Bobby Heenan was such a master at the psychology of wrestling that virtually any talent placed with him €“ no matter how devoid of personality they may be €“ was instantly over just be being associated with his €œfamily.€ In the instance of Nick Bockwinkel, the wrestler didn€™t need Heenan speaking for him, but the pairing was so complimentary that it took both talents to another level, and the same could be said to a lesser extent for Paul Orndorff, who was a decent promo in his own right. Where Bobby really excelled was in transferring his nuclear heat onto his charges. Try and imagine the Hulk Hogan/Andre The Giant feud without Heenan. When he made the transition to commentary, The Brain was equally effective at drawing heat, this time from the viewers at home. He was the sharp-witted weasel that we all wanted to see get punched in the face. And the best thing about Bobby €“ like any great heel €“ when it came time to get what was coming to him he made his opponent look like a million bucks.
