The basis of Angle€™s neurotic €œAmerican hero€ character was the gold medal he won in the Men€™s freestyle wrestling at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, an arrogant and condescending wannabe role model who would constantly harmonise about his €œ3 Is philosophy - Intensity, Integrity and Intelligence - much to chagrin of his fellow WWE superstars. It€™s true, it€™s true. Always wearing replicas of his gold medals, they represented the hubris and nauseating pomposity of Angle€™s on-screen persona whose narcissism rarely endeared him to the fans he regularly patronised and who mocked €œThe (Only) Olympic Gold Medalist (in Professional Wrestling)€ by chanting €˜You Suck€™ as he strutted to the ring.
