5. Ziggler Has Bret Hart's Problem Too

Asked what on earth WWE’s issue is with perennial 50/50 guy Dolph Ziggler, falconarrow had a take on the subject that mirrors another superstar I’ve talked about in this article.

“The problem with Dolph is he makes everyone look good, too good. He will probably get another run just based off talent but are we really expecting it to go anywhere? My guess would be no.”

Like Becky Lynch, Ziggler can work with anyone and make any match look good: more specifically in his case, Nick Nemeth has a gift for making any opponent look like a million dollars.

It’s the Bret Hart problem all over again. Back in the day, Hart - who was one of the most popular guys on the show, the hardest worker on the show, and the best wrestler on the show - would continually find himself placed second in Vince McMahon’s affections when it came time to determine the top spot on the card. He’d be sidelined for Yokozuna, for Hogan, for Michaels and for Diesel, every time promised the moon if he did what was right for the company.

CM Punk found himself in exactly the same position from about 2010 onwards. We know how both of these stories ended: one, with the Montreal Screwjob, and the other with Punk’s abrupt retirement from the business. Ziggler’s clearly not thought of as highly by the office as either Hart or Punk were, but it’s difficult not to see some parallels here.
