16 Things We Learned From William Regal On Talk Is Jericho

6. Getting Clean

William says that he makes no excuses for his behavior and choices and that when people congratulated him for cleaning up, he says that he never should have been doing those things to begin with. Jericho gives him credit for being one of the few guys who has actually been able to quit and stay clean. He asks how he finally made the decision to straighten up, and if it was rehab that did it for him. He said there was only one person in rehab with him who kept him straight because he wasn€™t really buying into the program, but that after ten weeks he got himself in a bit of trouble while inside and he woke up out of that with an epiphany to €œstop being such a d*ckhead.€ He said he€™s lucky that he was able to do it that way but that€™s who he is; when he decided he€™d had enough, that was enough. He then refutes rumors that he€™s had any relapses since he got clean in 1999 and says he€™s been straight the entire time. He credits WWE for saving his life, and mentions men like Steve Austin, Triple H and Jim Ross who€™d known him prior to joining the company with being very supporting in his struggle to get clean. €œI don€™t regret anything I€™ve ever done because if you live in the past you€™ll die every day.€
