16 Things We Learned From William Regal On Talk Is Jericho

12. Getting Tryouts With The Big Two

William€™s first chance at making it in America came via a tryout in 1991 with WWE. One of his mentors had called the offices in Stamford on his behalf and he received a tryout at The Royal Albert Hall. He was told they liked him but didn€™t really have a spot and would €œkeep him on file.€ A few weeks later he gets a call that WCW will be in town and wants to look at Giant Haystacks and they asked him to work with him since the two were familiar with each other. Something happened, and instead of working one night he was asked to stick around for the entire five day tour €“ a break that he credits Scott Hall for arranging. During the tour he worked with Michael Hayes, Jimmy Garvin, Terry Taylor and Kevin Nash under his Oz gimmick. This still didn€™t result in a full-time gig but he spent the next year booked all over the world.
