16 Wrestlers Who Must Feature In WWE's Crown Jewel World Cup

1. USA - Chad Gable

Your writers thought long and hard about who would fill the USA spot in this tournament as, well, there were absolutely loads who would have been a good fit.

Simply put, the USA entrant cannot win a show in Saudi Arabia because it's the most eye-rolling self-aggrandising outcome imaginable. However, they also can't simply be there to make up the numbers because, well, this is 'MURICA dammit and our brave boys don't step onto foreign soil just to roll over and have their tummies tickled.

Ergo, the American entrant needs to be someone whose progression to the latter stages is something of an underdog story. Someone who is undeniably talented, but not seen as one of the likely winners, and their eventual semi-final exit can end with both men raising each others arms. When they go out, they also need to go over.

Gable is, by this logic, the only viable choice. He carries the All-American image needed to correctly represent the global feel, is good enough to upset some big names without it looking cheap, but still low enough in the pecking order that his exit will be seen as something of a moral victory for fans back home to get behind. He, and by extension WWE's core audience, will feel like they've proved a point about how good America is without needing to win.
