16 WWE Superstars Who Did Not Belong At WrestleMania

5. Butterbean

Fans recognized Butterbean for his rivalry with Marc Mero in late 1997 but after that show wrapped up, few ever expected to see him inside the squared circle again. Fast forward 15 months and they did, as part of the payoff to the colossal failure that was the Brawl For All. A legitimate tough man competition pitting midcard Superstars against each other, designed to get "Dr. Death" Steve Williams over as a credible main event threat to Steve Austin, it was won in true upset fashion by Bart Gunn. The former tag champion's brutal left hand even managed to knock Williams out, not to mention locker room bully Bradshaw. Some say it was payback from Williams' best friend Jim Ross, a behind-the-scenes power player, that led to the idea to book Gunn against legitimate fighter Butterbean. Others say WWE wanted to prove that their guy could win against an established boxer. Whatever the case may be, Gunn's ass went down in seconds. Any spark his career may have had, any chance he may have stood at experiencing any sort of push as a result of his Brawl for All showing was flushed down the toilet quicker than his head hit the mat. Butterbean did not belong at WrestleMania. While the show has been home to gimmicky bouts such as a WrestleMania 2 Boxing match between Roddy Piper and Mr. T, the industry had changed in the 13 years between it and the 1999 show. Butterbean had overstayed his welcome and fans knew it, reacting with apathy as he entered the arena for his showdown with Gunn. The match, a public execution of Gunn's credibility, was a waste of time that could have been given to the tag team title match or spent on The Brood, who was left off the night's card.
