16 WWE Superstars Who Did Not Belong At WrestleMania

2. George Wells

George Wells was the former pro football player-turned-wrestler who battled Jake "The Snake" Roberts at WrestleMania 2. A strong athlete, he never quite had the success in wrestling, at least nationally, that he did on the gridiron. He was a journeyman whose stops including Stampede Wrestling, the National Wrestling Alliance, Memphis, and Central States Wrestling. But he was never a bona fide star. He was a good hand who collected a few championships. That he had only a short run on the WWE roster on his resume, primarily as a glorified jobber, and he still managed to make the biggest card of the year had many shaking their heads. Was Lanny Poffo busy that he could not compete against Roberts and put him over more spectacularly than Wells? By no means is this meant to belittle Wells or downplay his accomplishments in the industry. He was one of thousands plying their craft at a magical time for professional wrestling, and he certainly had his fans. But he did not belong on a card with legitimate stars, household names even, for Vince McMahon's most spectacular night.
