WWE surprised a majority of the wrestling universe when they pushed Kalisto as a singles superstar on the TV. He defeated Alberto Del Rio clean to win the United States Champion, but his first reign with the belt did not last long. Del Rio won the title from him on the following SmackDown episode, only to lose it again to the Lucha Dragons member at the Royal Rumble show. Kalisto held the US championship for over 100 days and defeated Ryback twice during their rivalry.

He ultimately lost the belt to Rusev and has never returned to the singles heavyweight division. The creative team gave him a reign as the Cruiserweight champion on the purple brand. However, Kalisto has majorly featured as a tag team star of late.

Given that he has been a member of the lower mid-card for long, the probability that the 33-year-old wrestler becomes the face of Vince McMahon's business is very low. It would be great if he receives another mid-card push soon.
