8. Getting The Call From WWE
Chris and AJ discuss how Styles has had a few flirtations with WWE in the past - a dark match in 2002 for example - but that it didn't work out. AJ says he believes it all happened for a reason and he needed to travel the road he did to end up in WWE. Jericho says there's a difference between 2002 AJ Styles and the 2016 version since now everyone knows who he is and the quality of performance he's known for and credits that as the reason WWE finally reached out to him. Styles said he was talking with a friend and let them know that he wasn't under contract to New Japan and if there was money to be made with WWE he didn't want to leave it on the table. He said he enjoyed where he was at but there was another challenge out there that he was hungry for. Slowly but surely the ball started rolling until it began moving so fast it was hard to keep up until the point that he started losing sleep over it. Basically he was the one who reached out initially but the company was far more receptive to it this time around.
