17 Things We Learned From John Cena On Chris Jericho's WWE Network Podcast
5. Thoughts On NXT
In regards to the upcoming stars, Jericho asks if he watches a lot of NXT, and Cena replies that he tries to but not as much as he'd like. He asks John if he sees some guys down there who have what it takes, and Cena responds that the most interesting thing about NXT is "the steam that the brand is building." He points out that they're not just having training matches anymore but they're in front of live audiences being forced to react, and that's the best way to learn. He tells a story of facing a hostile crowd when he had to induct Refrigerator Perry into the WWE Hall of Fame and how he was thrown out there on his own, pointing out that it's important for young talent to be put in positions where it's sink or swim. Cena's lack of commentary on anything or anyone in NXT signifies that he probably isn't familiar with the product at all, which is disappointing because it would have been nice to hear him speak on the great work guys like Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens are doing.
