18 Most Underrated Storylines In WrestleMania History
17. Hercules Vs. Haku (With Bobby Heenan) - WrestleMania V
Hercules was one of those superstars during the mid-to-late 1980s that got over with the office because of his physique more than his ability to work a halfway decent match. As the decade came to an end, the decision was made to have the longtime member of the Heenan Family turn babyface. The best way to do that? Treat him like a piece of property to the point that fans have no choice but to feel sympathy for him. Heenan, in a despicable act, sold Hercules as a slave to "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase. Hercules stood up to his manager and refused the sale, showing he had a little self respect for himself in the process. The result was a layered feud, with Hercules opposing both DiBiase and his former Heenan Family peers, the climax coming at WrestleMania V when he was slated to square off with Haku in singles competition. So, what makes the story so special, you ask? The simplicity. The characters at that time were so well-defined that the bookers did not have to do a great deal convince fans to buy into whatever story they were telling. Hercules was a big man tired of being treated like dirt and he took a stand. In the process, he won over the fans and his match with Haku was infinitely more heated as a result.
