18 Most Underrated Storylines In WrestleMania History

13. George "The Animal" Steele Vs. "Macho Man" Randy Savage (With Miss Elizabeth) - WrestleMania 2

There is no use trying to convince fans that the match between Randy Savage and George Steele at WrestleMania 2 was not an abominable piece of crap, because it was. A complete waste of Macho Man's immense talents, yes, but that does not mean, though, that Savage and Steele did not captivate fans with a fantastic storyline that created anticipation for their Intercontinental Championship match at the big event. On the contrary, it saved the entire ordeal and made it far more memorable, for the right reasons, than it otherwise would have been. Steele's infatuation with Miss Elizabeth enraged Savage, who would berate his valet for accepting gifts from the hairy Superstar. It was a classic Beauty and the Beast story, with Steele the likable-yet-horrific star who had developed a crush on the gorgeous Elizabeth. Savage was the jealous and controlling villain, not unlike Gaston from the Disney classic. At a time when Vince McMahon was emphasizing the importance of entertainment in his product, this was a shining example of two larger-than-life characters telling a story everyone could relate to and invest in.
