18 Most Underrated Storylines In WrestleMania History
14. Rey Mysterio Vs. CM Punk - WrestleMania XXVI
"Happy birthday, dear Aaliyah, happy birthday...to...you..." With that one creepy and unsettling tune sung to the daughter of his rival, CM Punk set himself on a collision course with Rey Mysterio that would prove one of the better built matches of the WrestleMania XXVI card. The former three-time World Champion, in the midst of his greatest heel run as leader of the cult-like Straight Edge Society, had fallen victim to a series of losses to the masked luchador, infuriating him and forcing him to take drastic measures to convince Mysterio to meet him one more time. He singled out Rey's family. Then, he added a stipulation to the WrestleMania bout that, should he win, Mysterio would be forced to join his Straight Edge Society. With so much raw emotion going into of it, and one of the most intriguing heels in a long damn time fueling it, the battle between Mysterio and Punk was as interesting a story leading into WrestleMania XXVI as any other on the card. The match itself was a nice sprint, one that was criminally short but laid the foundation for the remainder of their program. In the years that have followed that 2010 match, the feud has garnered more attention and support as some of Punk's greatest character work. Rightfully so.
