18 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Shawn Michaels
17. WWE Fired Shawn Michaels In 1987
Shawn's first break in WWE came with partner Marty Jannetty as The Rockers. The two high-flyers were a breath of fresh air in the slow, plodding WWE of the late 1980s, and while they never officially held gold, they're fondly remembered as one of the most talent teams of all time - a couple of trailblazers who opened doors for smaller wrestlers in the company.
Their four-year stint together - which famously ended when Michaels turned on Jannetty and threw him through a window - wasn't their first run with the company, though. In 1987, The Midnight Rockers were the reigning AWA World Tag Team Champions when Vince McMahon approached them about joining WWE. The Rockers agreed, quickly dropping the belts and coming into the company.
Unfortunately, The Rockers took their gimmick a bit too seriously. After only a few weeks with WWE, they were fired for excessive partying and a reported lack of focus on their ring work. With their bridge at AWA burned, the pair had to find new places to wrestle until WWE gave them another shot the following year.
