18 Ups & 15 Downs For WWE In 2023
15. Logan Paul Maximizes Moments
For a celebrity-turned-wrestler who had only five matches this year, Logan Paul probably had the best 2023 possible.
The social media maverick had eye-popping appearances in the Royal Rumble and Money in the Bank matches, battled Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 39, and won the United States Championship at Crown Jewel by defeating Rey Mysterio. But even more than the successes of his matches, Paul was a heat magnet in all his appearances on WWE programming, making him one of the best heels on the roster. Tormenting ring announcer Samantha Irvin during his feud with her fiancé Ricochet was a particularly inspired moment.
For as well as Logan has taken to being a wrestling heel, he still manages to be authentic and sound like himself – meaning he doesn’t sound like a product of the WWE system, and thus stands out even more. WWE deserves credit for not trying to train that natural behavior out of him, which has been their M.O. forever.
In some ways, it’s a shame Paul is a part-timer, because he’s been solid in every appearance, but there’s also the risk of wearing out his welcome and becoming less special.
