19 Things We Learned From Kenny Omega On Edge & Christian's Podcast
16. "He's Not That Anymore"
Kenny tells Edge and Christian of how things were in Deep South after the Rated R Superstar asked him to fill in the gap between his release from the company and his matches with Prince Devitt et al. It turns out when you arrive in the territory, you're told that whatever you were beforehand doesn't exist anymore. You're broken down and almost told to start from scratch in the, as he calls it, "WWE way."
In the quest to build what they described as a "Superstar," those in charge at Deep South even took away all of Kenny's established offence and told him what to do between the ropes. That's right: they gave him a list of new moves to use in each match. There's little wonder with treatment like that not too many stick out from the pack in terms of being a bonafide star these days as they're all moulded to be the same from the grassroots level.
Kenny tells of how he was able to become his own character in the promo classes but then was told how to act when he got inside the ring. What he did wasn't up to him which led to him becoming a "programmed robot."
He found this difficult because he struggles to be something other than himself.
