2 Ups & 6 Downs From WWE SmackDown (May 8)
3. Sonya's Lucky Win
Sonya Deville's match with Mandy Rose had a major upside that'll be discussed shortly, but it also starred quite the negative. WWE let Sonya down badly after all the confidence she's shown during her sterling promos lately. Her win over Mandy came across as a fluke stroke of luck rather than carefully-planned devious brilliance.
Why?!
There's an irritating amount of babyface protection at the wrong times in WWE. Rose wouldn't have lost any face had Deville kicked her butt by cheating to cut off comebacks then flexed her bad-assery by beating her old pal with something she could brag about. A quick roll-up cradle isn't something to boast about.
Lucky wins have no place in this rivalry. Its success relies on Mandy eventually dragging Sonya from pillar-to-post and exacting revenge for all her nasty, manipulative behaviour. It won't succeed if WWE continue booking half-hearted, fortuitous victories.
