8. As Nothing A Nothing Match As You’ll See

Damian Priest R-Truth New Day

R-Truth and Damian Priest defending their tag straps vs. Kofi Kingston and Grayson Waller was flat out dull. What the hell happened to New Day, man? They’ve gone from being one of WWE’s most charming and essential acts to…this. The heel turn has been a bust, and Waller subbing in as a would-be member doesn’t work.

Priest has also cooled off significantly as a star. Personally, this fan still thinks teaming with Truth will be good for him longer term, but it’d be a lie to suggest this was anything above mediocre. At times, it was like a matinee house show match everyone was yawning their way through because they had to hop another flight to New York later for the evening card.

Waller took some lumps from the babyfaces, Kofi felt like he might as well have been a cardboard cutout, and the live crowd struggled to get up for the John Cena tribute from the heroes at the end. SmackDown's doubles division will be better off with an 'odd couple' dynamic from Truth and Priest than it ever was whilst dominated by The Wyatt Sicks or MFTs, but this wasn't exactly living proof of that point.

As the subheading suggests, it was a nothing encounter.

Slap some butter on New Day, because the once-proud group is honestly toast. They have zero menace as bad guys, and the Grayson sub-plot is about as enticing as it sounds. It's like AI booked this then told the writers they were stunning and brave for coming up with it.
