19. Jake Chases Andre With Damien (1989)
Andre the Giant did not enter the first Royal Rumble
in 1988, so when he competed in the second Rumble, it was only fair to assume
he was a prohibitive favorite. After all, Andre had an impressive record in
battle royals and won the WrestleMania II battle royal just three years
earlier.
At the time, Andre was feuding with red-hot babyface Jake “The Snake” Roberts. Jake figured out that his best bet to overcome his larger opponent was to use his snake Damien to gain an psychological advantage – since it turned out that Andre had a fear of snakes. At the ’89 Rumble, Andre eliminated Jake but Roberts returned moments later with his bag in tow.
Roberts threw Damien into the ring and chased Andre
over the top rope, eliminating the big man and sending their feud to
WrestleMania V.
