After WrestleMania 35, fans could have been forgiven for thinking the rivalry between Brock Lesnar and Seth Rollins was over with. Despite several clashes over both the WWE and Universal Championship, a questionable Money in the Bank win for The Beast and cash-in at the expense of The Architect meant the stage was set for their final battle at SummerSlam 2019.

While Seth's win in the opening match of WrestleMania might have been on the bigger stage, this match arguably meant more. He was able to defeat The Beast clean, without any interference or underhanded tactics, something he had always needed in the past when facing Brock. Coming into SummerSlam, the former Shield member was determined to be the one to finally put Paul Heyman's client away, and nothing was going to stand in his way. Despite being hit with all of Lesnar's signature offense, multiple German Suplexes and two F-5s Rollins would not go away.

In a call-back to their epic triple threat match with John Cena, Rollins again put Lesnar through the announce table from the top rope, before three Stomps would signal the end for Lesnar and his Universal Title reign in the pair's best bout of their several one-on-one title matches.
