20 Best Triple H Wrestling Matches Ever
2. Vs. Shawn Michaels Vs. Chris Benoit - WrestleMania XX
Daniel Bryan might be the latest example of the plucky underdog overcoming the mounds of muscle, but Chris Benoit was arguably the best example of this in one of the greatest WrestleMania main events ever.
During the height of Triple H and Shawn Michaels' rivalry, a spanner was thrown into the works when the Rabid Wolverine won the Royal Rumble and chose to face the Game for his World Heavyweight Championship. Following a Last Man Standing draw between Hunter and Michaels, as well as Benoit refusing to challenge Eddie Guerrero for his championship, the choice was made to turn the World title match into a triple threat.
The standard rule of modern 3-man contests is that it's a one on one contest while another of the superstars rests out of sight until the next man gets taken out of a chill. On this night the action was non-stop between all three, everyone getting numerous spots on each other. Their styles gelled together perfectly, with Triple H trying to keep hold of his gold by any means necessary, from underhanded tactics, to holding the hand of a superstar trapped in a submission hold.
It would eventually not matter as it was the Game himself doing the honours for Benoit, tapping out to his Crippler Crossface, allowing him to celebrate with his best friend Guerrero in the ring to the most emotional final image until that point. It also allowed the feud between the Game and the Heartbreak Kid to continue.
