In the wake of Eddie Guerrero's tragic death, fans were almost willing Rey Mysterio to the World Heavyweight Championship - although those hopes looked dashed when he entered the 2006 Royal Rumble at number 2. Thanks to some smart strategy (a display of equally smart booking from WWE, who simply couldn't portray Mysterio as a dominant ass-kicker), the Latino underdog found himself in a final showdown with Randy Orton. The final elimination was executed perfectly, with Orton looking to deal with the pesky Rey once and for all - only to find himself swept head-over-heels and out of the Rumble.
