20 Biggest Myths WWE Tells About Its History
12. HHH Ruled The Attitude Era
The Myth: Triple H was a powerful main event force that dominated the Attitude Era.
The Truth: Sorry, no.
There's no denying that Triple H was an important part of the Attitude Era, including some of its biggest moments. He was a player, no doubt. But to suggest that he was a major player - on par with Steve Austin, The Rock, even Mick Foley - is nuts.
Triple H cut his teeth as Shawn Michaels’ heterosexual (?) life partner in D-Generation X, and assumed the mantle of leadership when HBK slipped into temporary retirement.
He got to “invade” WCW, and feud with Nation-era Rock over the Intercontinental Championship. He did eventually win the WWE Championship a few times, and even became the first heel to close out WrestleMania as champion.
However, these title reigns were nothing compared to the domination he'd exert starting in 2002. With Austin, Rock and Foley gone and Undertaker and Kurt Angle on SmackDown, Triple H ruled Raw like a feudal estate.
But that was the Ruthless Aggression Era, characterized by the lack of Attitude Era megastars. No disrespect to Booker T or Rob Van Dam, but they're a little bit easier to “rule over” than Rock and Austin, you know?
