20 Biggest Wrestling Moments That Ever Happened In July

6. CM Punk Wins At Money In The Bank

Cm Punk John Cena Money In The BankWWE.comDate: July 17th, 2011 Heading into 2011's Money In The Bank pay-per-view, fans were wondering just what would happen in the WWE Title match between champion John Cena and challenger CM Punk. With Punk's contract running out, according to all of the "dirt sheets", he couldn't possibly win the title, could he? As big as he was becoming, and as much momentum as he had built with his "pipe bomb", WWE wouldn't just have him lose to Cena and leave the company, would they? Something had to give. What we got was damn near a masterpiece of a match, with a molten-hot crowd from start to finish, and two men who were motivated to tear the roof off of the building that night. Many, many wrestling fans have the match listed as one of their all-time favorites, and it's tough to blame them for it. When Punk pinned Cena to become the new champion, you would have thought the crowd in the arena started an earthquake with how loud they were. Punk's win answered any questions that may have remained about his contract status, but it didn't take away from the moment in the slightest. It's part of the reason why people still miss Punk and chant for him, to this day, when it's becoming more and more clear that he's gone for good and will never be returning to the ring.
