20 Biggest Wrestling Moments That Ever Happened In July

7. Sting Wins His First World Title

WWE.comWWE.comDate: July 7th, 1990 Sting officially "arrived" as a star in 1988, when he fought Ric Flair to a 45-minute time limit draw in their NWA World Title match to main event the very first Clash Of The Champions event. Fast forward to a little over two years later, when those two would main event another event for the NWA World Title, this time 1990's Great American Bash pay-per-view. Sting would go on to defeat Flair and win the title. It was the first of his 12 official World Title reigns during his career, but this one, being the first, set everything else in motion. Flair and Sting had such great chemistry in the ring, and Flair always went out of his way to make Sting look incredible. Sting was in the right place at the right time, able to build from a champion that would work with him and help to "carry" him when he needed it. It's safe to say that Ric Flair is the reason any of us even know who Sting is to this day. That's not a knock on Sting at all. It's just pointing out what Flair was able to do for him and his career.
