20 Biggest Wrestling Moments That Ever Happened In July

13. Great American Bash 1989

WWE.comWWE.comDate: July 23rd, 1989 To this very date, if you ask wrestling fans what was the best pay-per-view of all-time, a large percentage of them are going to tell you that 1989's Great American Bash is their selection. Whether it's the pay-per-view debut of Scott Steiner (the first Steiner Brothers match, period), seeing John Laurinaitis (as Johnny Ace) get destroyed by The Skyscrapers ("Psycho" Sid Vicious and "Dangerous" Dan Spivey), Sting VS The Great Muta being a fantastic match, Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat carrying Lex Luger to Luger's best match ever, War Games, a great Ric Flair VS Terry Funk match, or a wild brawl at the end with Flair, Funk, Sting, and Muta... this event really has something for everyone to enjoy. A lot of people feel that wrestling doesn't always hold up well as years go by, and for the most part, they're correct. You can watch matches from eras gone by that were considered classics at the time, but now, they just don't come across well. The good matches at the '89 Bash do hold up, though. Sting VS Muta is a great blend of North American and Japanese styles, and although it was a short match, Muta did a great job in guiding a young-and-still-green Sting along. War Games was what you would expect from that type of match... a wild, physical, intense brawl. Steamboat VS Luger was another short match, but Steamboat did everything he physically could to help sell Luger's offense, making the whole thing come together nicely. Flair VS Funk was another wild brawl, coming off of their wild brawl at Clash Of The Champions when they had their legendary "I Quit" Match. Just a lot of fun stuff that is worth going out of your way to watch if you haven't seen it.
