SmackDown’s resident redneck is still one of this writer’s personal favorites. During his third stint with the company, Jimmy Wang Yang was a delightfully entertaining cruiserweight wrestler once he found his rhythm as the rhino shuffling, cowboy hatted redneck.

Quietly released in 2002 after WWE purchased WCW, in which he formerly competed in as Yang, one third of the Jung Dragons stable with Jamie Noble and Kaz Hayashi, he got a another shot in the big leagues in 2003. As one of Tajiri’s henchmen, now competing as Akio, he was still unable to gain traction and wound up released again in 2005. However, come 2006 he got a final opportunity and Jimmy Wang Yang was born.

Who knew growing a Fu Manchu mustache was the missing link?

Despite his Asian heritage, Yang thought of himself as a proud redneck, maintaining that this wasn’t a stereotypical attempt at portraying Asian people. Now living out of Cincinnati, Yang spends his time driving locals around with his ‘Redneck Party Bus’ business.

Jimmy Wang Yang is Yer Boy! And would be well-fit for the crowd-popping high spots in this showcase match.
