Through no fault of his own, Santino Marella is the embodiment of a wrestling character fans either love or hate. No in between.
Thrust into the limelight in 2007 as a 'fan' on an episode of Raw emanating from Milan, Italy, Anthony Carelli was plucked from the crowd to challenge, and eventually defeat Umaga, becoming Intercontinental Champion on his first night.
Thus, Santino Marella was born, and he went on to become one of the most polarizing comedy characters WWE has ever produced. Popular with some, despised by others, it is remarkable to remember how much the cobra-wielding 'Milan Miracle' accomplished during his career. Not only winning various titles, Marella was runner-up in the 2011 Royal Rumble, and last eliminated in the 2012 World Heavyweight Championship Elimination Chamber match. Then again, he additioanlly took home the insulting honour of 'Miss WrestleMania' at WrestleMania 25, dressed in drag as his 'twin sister' Santina, winning a battle royal designed to pay homage to trailblazing women of eras gone by.
