20 Greatest Matches In WWE's Empty Arena Era
8. Roman Reigns vs Jey Uso - Clash Of Champions
Some folks will prefer the high drama and sheer brutality of their Hell In A Cell rematch, but for the sense of hope and possibility at the core of this first cousin vs cousin match, the original wins out. Reigns’ pure heel persona was honed here after Jey won a chance at the Tribal Chief’s recently gained Universal Championship.
Roman first congratulated his cousin on grabbing the opportunity; but when it became clear that Uso wasn’t about to take a payday and lie down, things got vicious.
This was a heated match from the off, with Roman underestimating the tag team specialist and getting clobbered for his troubles. The head knew that Jey couldn’t take the strap from Reigns, but the heart felt otherwise, and the pair threw in some tense two counts to keep us believing.
Eventually, though, Roman’s power and brutality took over, and he beat Jey to a pulp as the plucky underdog refused to recognise Reigns as the head of the table. It took injured brother Jimmy’s intervention to throw in the towel and keep Jey from being mashed up any further. An exquisite build with a great pay off.
