20 Greatest Matches In WWE's Empty Arena Era
5. Kevin Owens vs Roman Reigns - Royal Rumble
Reigns’ finest programme thus far as the Tribal Chief has been with Kevin Owens, an opponent about as generous as they come. At their excellent TLC clash, KO bumped like a maniac for the Big Dog, and they took things to even greater extremes at the Royal Rumble.
Last Man Standing matches aren’t always the most enjoyable stipulation, what with the inevitable slowness of the finish, so these two big boys compensated with a wild and wacky fight all over the Thunderdome. Reigns was hurled into the big screens. Owens was mashed by Reigns in a golf cart (captured perfectly by WWE cameras). Owens ramped things up with a swanton bomb off a raised forklift, for a convincing near fall.
The ending was bodged - with Reigns handcuffed to a pillar and Heyman struggling to free his charge, the ref was forced to stop the count - but that doesn’t stand in the way of a cap off to a great programme that thrust Owens back into the main event where he belongs and kept the heat on the Big Dog, who was getting better with every week.
