20 Greatest Matches In WWE's Empty Arena Era
17. Drew McIntyre vs Randy Orton - Clash Of Champions
Randy Orton and Drew McIntyre’s tussle over the World Championship was a reliable angle, if one that eventually went on a bit too long. The two exhibited impressive chemistry, and generally had their dials set to the Intense setting. At Clash Of Champions, they cut loose with a goofy and fun ambulance match, the highlight of this programme.
Randy Orton had spent the summer doing Randy Orton things - that is to say, kicking folks in the head for a laugh - and now his chickens were coming home to roost. Over the course of the match the Viper was haunted by Christian and Shawn Michaels, both of whose skulls he had punted, and the retired stars were eager to see Randy packed off to the nearby medical facility.
Orton and McIntyre bumped their way around the building, atop the ambulance, before the Scot finally leveled his foe with some vicious offence. The cherry on the cake: Ric Flair revealing himself as the ambulance driver, whisking Randy off into the night.
Some felt that Drew was made to look soft in needing three old dudes to help him win, but this was just good clean fun, livening up a feud that was lacking in a light touch.
