Charlotte and Natalya had been opponents before April 11, 2016, having competed two other times with gold on the line, but there was added pressure on them following the extraordinary performance of Charlotte and her fellow Four Horsewomen at WrestleMania.

Determined to prove that the bloom was not off the rose of the women's revolution, the Women's Champion and her top contender delivered a strong match steeped in counters, reversals and leg-based submissions.

Late in the bout, Natalya saw her Sharpshooter finisher countered repeatedly, only to finally trap her opponent in the vaunted hold. Unfortunately, Ric Flair interfered, pulling the official out of the ring and drawing a disqualification just as Charlotte began tapping out, which would have brought her reign to an end.

Natalya saw her aspirations evaporate, thanks to the two-time Hall of Famer who had been so vital to his daughter's spot atop the women's wrestling mountain, setting up yet two more contests between the two at Payback and Extreme Rules.
