20 Longest WWE Intercontinental Title Reigns

10. Pat Patterson - 233 Days

The Rock Ic Champ

As well as having the tenth longest Intercontinental Champion of all time, Pat Patterson has the honour of being the very first person to hold the title, having defeated a vast array of opponents during a tournament in Brazil. Honest.

The official word on Patterson's reign is that he won the belt after the WWF North American Championship and the South American Championship were unified. Patterson beat Ted DiBiase for the WWF North American belt in June 1979, whilst he defeated Johnny Rodz in the Brazil tournament to bring the two titles together to be the newly created Intercontinental Heavyweight Champion.

Of course, whilst the Patterson win over DiBiase was very much legit, the whole Brazil tournament was entirely fictional and was just used as a way to create a new title for the WWF.

Pat Patterson's run with the IC Title would last for 233 days, with him turning face during the reign before he eventually lost the gold to Ken Patera in April 1980. Thing is, Patterson's foot was on the ropes, meaning he was screwed out of the title. That wouldn't be the last time that the Intercontinental Championship would see controversy.
