20 Longest WWE Intercontinental Title Reigns

11. Ken Patera - 231 Days

The Rock Ic Champ

After a career in weightlifting and strongman tournaments, including competing in World's Strongest Man and the 1972 Olympics, Ken Patera began to make his mark in the wrestling world.

After spells in Mid-Atlantic and the AWA, the dastardly heel Patera stepped over to New York. It was in April 1980 that he'd become the then-WWF Intercontinental Champion, becoming the second man to hold the belt after defeating inaugural champ Pat Patterson.

Why Patera's IC Title run is so unique is that he also happened to hold the NWA Missouri Heavyweight Championship at the same time. That'd kind of be like Dolph Ziggler being the IC Champ today whilst also holding the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. It just wouldn't happen.

Patera would hold the Intercontinental Championship for 231 days before losing the belt to Pedro Morales, making Morales the first ever Triple Crown winner.

Many remember Ken Patera as the All-American babyface of the late 1980s, but it was his 1980 Intercontinental Championship win that would be the highlight of his WWF career.
