20 Longest WWE Intercontinental Title Reigns

8. Shelton Benjamin - 244 Days

Whilst Cody Rhodes' first run as Intercontinental Champion is fondly remembered, it was the longest reign since Shelton Benjamin lost the belt in 2006.

"The Gold Standard" won the IC Championship after being voted into a title match at Taboo Tuesday back in 2004. He'd go on to knock off Chris Jericho for the gold, going on to have a run with the IC Title that lasted for an impressive 244 days.

What's a little bit strange about Benjamin's IC Title run is that many people often forget that it even really happened or that it was anywhere near in length to what it actually was. Benjamin wasn't the best of talkers and was never really involved in any major feuds as such, and so despite putting on some fantastic matches, his time as Intercontinental Champion was largely spent in the background of the WWE product at that point.

Despite sometimes being overlooked, Benjamin's first Intercontinental Championship run is the longest of this century and is the longest reign since The Rock back in the late '90s. He'd eventually lose the title to Carlito on an episode of Raw and would end up becoming a three-time IC Champ.
