As well as being right up there with the biggest names that the wrestling world has ever seen, The Rock is also the proud owner of an impressively long Intercontinental Title run.

Whilst Rocky Maivia would have a so-so run with the IC Title in 1997, it was his transition to "The Rock" that put the son of Rocky Johnson on the road to stardom. Helping in his rise was an Intercontinental Championship reign of 265 days; the longest run with the belt since 1991.

The Rock would get handed the IC Title after Steve Austin forfeited it, and his reign with the belt would elevate both himself and the title as he went on to do battle with Austin, Ken Shamrock and Farooq for the next few months before coming up against another star on the rise: Triple H.

The feud with Hunter would do wonders in terms of pushing both Rock and Triple H further towards the main event scene, and would again showcase the Intercontinental Championship as a vital part of WWF programming. Triple H would end up winning the IC Title from The Rock in a brilliant ladder match at Summerslam 1998.
