When Vince McMahon brought the nWo into the WWE, they were as outside invaders aiming to take down WWE from within and were very clearly the heels. At WrestleMania X-8 Hulk Hogan went up against The Rock in a match that was billed as Icon vs Icon, but everyone expected The Rock to be cheered, while the traitor Hogan would be booed for leaving the WWF in the mid-90s. The crowd in Toronto however had different ideas, and having not seen Hulk Hogan wrestle in WWE in nearly ten years they switched things up and turned The Hulkster babyface. Every little thing Hogan did was met with love and applause from the crowd, and now that match is always the go-to example of one that was exponentially improved by the atmosphere of the audience.
