20 Major WrestleMania Matches We Didn't Get

19. Hulk Hogan Vs. Ric Flair (WrestleMania 8)

This clash of the icons was certainly supposed to happen. After Flair won the WWF Title in the 1992 Royal Rumble, Hogan was announced as his WrestleMania opponent by President Jack Tunney in a kayfabed press conference that aired on the company's weekend shows. So what happened? One theory offered by many, notably Bret Hart, is that the house show matches between Flair and Hogan hadn't drawn well, and they'd be playing a stale hand at WrestleMania with the match on top. Bruce Prichard adds that it was thought a Flair/Randy Savage match had more potential, while Hulk was paired with Sid Justice. It made sense for Flair to drop the belt at WrestleMania, and Hulk was taking a sabbatical in light of his damaged public image, so giving each man a different opponent made a little more sense.
