20 Most Emotional WWE Matches

1. The Ultimate Warrior vs. Randy Savage - WrestleMania VII

There has never, and will never, be a match more emotional than the Retirement match between Randy Savage and The Ultimate Warrior at WrestleMania VII. Not only was there the match itself, which saw two proud former heavyweight champions battling for the right to continue their career, it also featured a heartwarming post-match angle that saw the reunion of Savage and Miss Elizabeth after two years apart. Warrior repeatedly found himself questioning his destiny, whether he was meant to continue on in the wrestling world or if he was to find peace doing something else. After a resilient Savage kicked out of his big splash, Warrior began walking away from the squared circle. This, after surviving five straight elbow drops from Savage, effectively killing Macho Man's finisher dead. But a sneak attack re-energized Warrior and gave him the answers he needed. Several shoulder tackles put an end to Savage and his legendary career. For a little while at least. The real defining element of the match came after the bell, when Elizabeth hit the ring to save her longtime charge from a beating at the hands of Sherri, who was irate that her meal ticket was suddenly out of a job. Elizabeth tossed her to the mat and, after convincing Randy that it was not she who had delivered the beatdown, embraced the Macho Man. Tears flowed and even Gorilla Monsoon discussed how touching the display was. But it was not until Savage held the ropes open for Elizabeth, the first time that had ever happened, that fans understood the importance of the moment. The love the two had for each other was on full display and fans erupted, having waited far too long to see them embrace as anything more than manager and wrestler.
