The transformation from bleached-blonde surfer dude to dark and mysterious Brandon Lee rip-off couldn't have come at a better time for Sting, and WCW in general. With the swift ascension of the nWo and a legion of hyped-up wannabe gangstas, there was a need for a silent, brooding character to fight this uprising.

The trench coat, the moody face paint, the long hair, and the unique singlet/tights combo all worked together to really make this new Sting feel like a completely different character. And of course, dropping down from the rafters and beating the hell out of a ring-full of baddies with a baseball bat is a quick way to mark your own path.

What's most impressive is that Sting directly copied a popular movie character and still made people associate the look with him more than the character he stole it from.
