20 Most RANDOM WWE Royal Rumble Entrants

9. Dick Murdoch (1995)

Some tuning in for the 1993 Rumble likely thought Bob Backlund had arrived via time machine backstage. If Bob looked a bit outdated, then one Dick Murdoch seemed positively archaic when he jogged out to take part in 1995's special. Dick rushing out at #27 (yes, that deep into the match) should tell you everything you need to know about the state of the roster back then.

The WWF didn't have enough talent to fill up the 30-man Rumble and an undercard of other matches. That'll be why so many of '95's entrants were complete wastes - Murdoch was joined by erm..."WWF Superstars" like Timothy Well, Steven Dunn, Aldo Montoya, Mantaur, Kwang, Jimmy Del Ray, Jacob and Eli Blu and more. It was hardly a lineup befitting the occasion, let's be real about that straight away.

Dick was one of the most random. He'd been working sporadically over in Japan for years, and it seemed his remaining hopes of North American exposure fell when WCW's plundered old-school archives for retro-themed Slamboree shows. The WWF gig came out of nowhere. It really goes to show just how few plans McMahon and cohorts had for that year's Rumble. Shawn Michaels going from first to last was all they had to shout about.

People have often wondered why the WWF shortened 1995's Rumble to less than 40 minutes. Without being cheeky, the fact guys like Murdoch were involved gave them an excuse. The 30-man deck was ridiculously weak, and everyone knew it. This would be Dick's final federation bow before passing away the following year.
