Did you know that WWE's Royal Rumble killed a WCW championship completely? It's true. You won't see that on any greatest hits list looking at WCW's best moments ever.

Haku returned to the company out of nowhere during the 2001 match whilst he was still Hardcore Champion over on the other channel, but he didn't bring the belt with him. No, this wasn't on par with Lex Luger making the leap for Nitro's debut in 1995, or Madusa binning the WWF Women's Title live on air, but it did show that WCW chiefs had taken their eyes right off the ball.

Meng had won the WCW Hardcore belt on the 14 January pay-per-view Sin. Exactly one week later, he was #29 in the Rumble, and WCW quietly shelved their garbage match title like it was nothing. They didn't even have the decency to have someone throw it in the trash so Jim Duggan could find it and declare himself the new champ by default. The cheek of it.

Comeback king Haku only lasted less than three minutes in the Rumble before being thrown out by eventual winner Steve Austin. He'd go on to form a tag team with Rikishi on TV after that and continued working for the promotion in-ring up until 2002. Technically, he never lost WCW's strap, so you can consider him Hardcore Champion for life (that seems fitting given his tough guy reputation).

This late entrant caught everyone totally by surprise in 2001. It wasn't even something a lot of the magazines of the time picked up on heading into the pay-per-view. Apparently, things happened too fast for everyone to keep up with. Meng was out and Haku was back in.
